Recover Faster to Train More (& Lose weight)

By September 22, 2016Adult Fitness

Each person is different.

One person’s needs, sleep requirements, dietary requirements, etc. may be totally unsuitable for another person.

The same idea applies to training – the right number of workouts, as well as the intensity, for a person is totally unique. You may feel good working out hard 5 times per week, while your spouse may feel best working out just twice or three times a week with less fervor.

If your primary goal is to lose weight, however, there’s one thing that’s certain:

The more you train, the more calories you burn. The more calories you burn, the more likely you’ll lose weight.

You may be thinking “how can I train more? I already found what works for me.”

Luckily, there are a few strategies that will enable you to recover more quickly, train more, and subsequently lose more weight.

#1 – Foam rolling

Foam rolling is a type of “self-massage” that not only feels good (or hurts, depending on who you ask!), but can actually help you recover between your workouts.

The pressure and cross-friction produced from the rolling helps improve blood flow to the respective muscles and tissues, essentially giving it more access to the nutrients and building block that allow them to heal.

Making foam rolling part of your daily ritual is a simple & quick way to ensure you recover more quickly!

#2 – Low-impact cardio workouts

If you’re lifting heavy and really pushing your body during your workouts, then you can easily add in a light cardio workouts on your off-days without a hitch.

The benefit is two-fold: first, because the workout is significantly easier than your primary workouts, you get the ability to burn more calories without affecting your recovery. Second, because it gives you the opportunity to increase your heart-rate and improve bloodflow, light cardio workouts actually help your recovery!

#3 – Eat and sleep right

Without proper diet and sleep, we could not function as human beings.

Food and shut-eye give our bodies the fuel and ability to repair.

If you’re sleeping 5 hours a night and eat fast-food on the daily, your body will not recover as well as it could while sleeping 8 hours a night and being fed wholesome foods.

Do your body this favor and give it what it needs: good sleep and healthy food.

With these three tips, you can train harder, train more often, and lose more weight!
