This week’s Adult Success Story is on Lisa Rafal.
Lisa is a mother of two from Scotch Plains who found us back in November of last year. At the time, she was looking lose some weight that she had gained in the past year.
Lisa trained with us about twice per week since the beginning of November, all throughout the holidays, and into the Spring season.
Her results? Lisa has lost over 20 pounds, gotten leaner, and gained a lot of strength since starting out at GameChanger.
We’re incredibly proud of the progress she’s had and the changes she’s made thus far.
Here’s Lisa’s story:
“Before joining GameChanger I was stuck in a rut that started when I lost my grandmother in February of 2015. She was my best friend and her death devastated me. I did what a lot of people do when they’re sad, which was eat. I gained about 30 lbs and in November of 2015 I was only 10 lbs away from the heaviest I’ve ever been.
I knew I needed to change, but I couldn’t summon the resolve to turn my head around.
One night I was in bed on Facebook and I saw the ad for the GameChanger 21-day Fit Mom Challenge. I scrolled past it, but it just came up again! I decided to click the link and read about the program. I saw that there were regular moms like me here, not just supermodels and figure competitors.
I figured, “I can do anything for 3 weeks” and I sent over an email for more information.
When I started at GameChanger, I was taken with how friendly and welcoming everyone was. It was like the show “Cheers”! I never would have thought that I could walk into a gym and NOT feel self-conscious, but it really felt like a family from day one. The encouragement of the coaches always has me feel the desire to push myself a little harder. Aside from losing 20+ lbs of weight, I’ve found a body I never knew I could have! I know women who are lean and muscular, but I never imagined I could be like them.
Right now, I’m stronger than I’ve ever been and I’m feeling like the best version of myself.
Since November 9th, a lot of things have changed for me. I recently went through the first anniversary of my grandmother’s passing, and a number of other very stressful situations over which I have no control. Even though I haven’t been perfect and indulged a little more than I should have, I turned to my workouts, more-so than food, as a way to deal with the stress.
That’s a huge breakthrough for me.
In addition to committing to my workouts, I’ve become devoted to better nutrition. And not just for me, but for my family. I’m seeing how my fitness is inspiring and helping my family and other people around me and it feels tremendous.”
